Churches in Speegleville, Texas¶
Churches have historically been the civic heart of Speegleville. The original Baptist congregation — organized in 1859 as the Pleasant Grove Church — survived both Lake Waco dam displacements and continues today as the Speegleville Baptist Church. The community's churches remain the primary gathering places for area residents.

In 1891, Louannah Speegle (wife of the community's founder) and her son donated one acre of land for a new church building. It remains the community's anchor institution.
