  • History/Description: Central Presbyterian is one of Waco's oldest congregations, with roots going back to 1869 when it was established as Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Waco by 18 charter members under Rev. William Dillard. The congregation built its first permanent sanctuary in 1873. It was renamed Central Presbyterian Church in 1906 and constructed a brick sanctuary with elaborate stained glass windows in 1921–22 at its original downtown Waco location (1226 Washington Ave). In 2004, the congregation relocated to its current Woodway address, where it continues to serve the western Waco community. The church describes itself as "open and affirming" and is affiliated with the PCUSA. It celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019.
